From Dolph Simons, Jr.

Dear Ann and Rud:

I am embarrassed for being so late in my writing but Pam and I were out of town when we learned about your loss of Jay.

I don't know whether he had been ill for some time or if his death was sudden and enexpected. Regardless, I know this is a tremendous loss for you. I wish there was something a person could do or say at a time such as this to be of real help but Pam and I are thinking or you and we extend our deepest sympathy.

I did not have the pleasure of knowing Jay but it is apparent from the various quotes from his friends that he was a truly special individual. It is unusual for so many people in different walks of life to be as positive and enthusiastic in their comments about a person as were made relative to Jay and how he fit in with the community.

I do know no young man could have had more loving parents than the two of you who took such good care of him and helped him in so many ways.

And, I'm fairly sure your life with Jay also played a role in you commitment to do what you could to help others who face similar challenges in one way or another. Your recognition as two of the most influential individuals of the last century in working with handicapped-related matters attests to the excellence and depth of your work........and commitment.

Once again, Pam and I extend our deep sympathy.

Sincerely,
Dolph Simons, Jr.
