Ann and Rud,

I learned the sad news about Jay yesterday, and I want to express my most heartfelt sympathy. I have so many warm memories of Jay from Chapel Hill, when I first met all of you in 1978. How lucky I was to study with both of you, and especially, to be included in the life of the Turnbull family! I remember Jay as such a friendly and happy young man, always eager for new experiences. I always loved how he gave a firm handshake and introduced himself in this way, "This is my son, Jay Turnbull."

Ann and Rud, I could never imagine a more rich and joyous life than Jay's, because of your creativity and vision. As I see all the reactions from people all over the globe, I am reminded how many lives Jay touched. His life was a wonderful journey, and everyone is better because of Jay.

My heart is with you. Please know how many people love and pray for both of you, as well as for Amy and Kate.
