Dear Rud and Ann,

On behalf of the Division on Developmental Disabilities, I want to express our sympathy for the passing of your son, Jay. We in the field know what an inspiration he was to your work, and therefore, to the entire field of special education. DDD is making a donation to the Jay Turnbull Fellowship you have established in JT's name.

While we always hear that a child with a disability can be a blessing to his family, we know firsthand the blessing that Jay was to your family, and to the entire field of special education. Although many of us did not know Jay personally, his inspiration to your work speaks for itself. I know you will miss him terribly; just know that the entire field feels the loss.

Thanks to the two of you for your many years of service to individuals with disabilities and for beings such wonderful role models for all of us in special education.
