Dear Ann and Rud,
 
This is not the proper place for me to express my deep sympathy for your loss of your son and inspiration, Jay. I must and will do that in person. For now, let me just say that Jay will be missed and never forgotten—not only because “in so many ways, Jay changed the world,” but also because he changed each of us who knew him—and that my thoughts and prayers are with you in your sorrow and joy.
