Dear Ann and Rud,
Trip and I were so very saddened to hear of Jay's recent passing. I had the opportunity many years ago to spend time with Jay, when Shahla Alai was working with our son, Tom. In the years that followed, I often saw Jay out and about, and enjoyed watching his seeming ability to navigate so well through his world. He obviously had many friends throughout Lawrence, and our community will surely miss his presence.
Though we've never met, you two have been a sort of distant guiding force for Trip and me over the years. There is no question that Jay's freedom and independence was the result of insightful and forward-thinking parents. We strive to follow your fine example.
Our thoughts and hearts are with you - we can't imagine the magnitude of your loss. We only hope it is tempered by the richness of your family's years together.
