I never met Jay but I know his extraordinary Dad and have had brief contact with his sister Katie in New York. Ghandi teaches us to “be the change you want in the universe.” The Turnbull family is a demonstration of this. I guess you could say the Jays was a life well lived. That does not mean that it was an easy life, there was struggle, but it was a life that made a difference. One cannot make a difference without struggle. So now we are obligated to continue the struggle in order to make a difference, in order to “be the change”. We need to do this to honor Jay’s life and the lives of the family and friends that he leaves behind.
Jay’s very existence changed the universe as does his death. The carpet that his family and friends walk on is now irrevocably altered. Hearts are broken. But life is good and there is work to be done. Like Jay, we need to get up every morning with a sense of goal and purpose and continue the struggle with a full heart.
May his memory be for a blessing.
Warmly, Carole Gothelf
