Dear Ann and Rud,

I was deeply saddened to hear about the death of Jay. I can only imagine how difficult this must be for you. Email is such a poor format for this, and normally I would just give you a huge hug since I do not think I can find the right words to say, but since I am too far this is the only way I have to send you all my love. I have not seen you since more than a year ago but you are in my thoughts very often and I will not forget all you did for me when I was living in Lawrence. I also remember when I went to the beach Center and I saw Jay almost every morning with his smile and his bag. I am proud to be one of those lucky persons that were blessed with his special handshake. He will be missed.

I know that you were going to come to Spain next month, I hope that you have not changed your plans since I am really looking forward to seeing you and hugging you. If you finally go to Madrid, I will also go that day and I will try to be as good hostess as you were with me in Lawrence.
