I first met Jay, Ann and Rud in CT probably 30 years ago. They were my heroes in the earliest days of my career. Each of them opened me up in significant ways to become who I am today as a disability rights leader, as a community member, as a person with a disability and as a parent to two children with disabilities. Jay’s successes had an important impact on the successes my own children, now 25 and 17. Over the years, our paths have crossed, the Turnbulls and me… and always with great delight. I loved the night time picnic Ann and I shared under a colorful tent on a sandy shore of the Persian Gulf and the shared political tables Rud and I find each other at again and again… always connecting as friends and as members of a special club… parents whose lives have been personally and professionally enmeshed as we work to maximize the lives of 650 million people with disabilities worldwide, starting at home.
Jay’s loss is huge and my heart breaks for these loving and devoted parents who have given so much to us all.
Jay, Ann and Rud, you are all in my thoughts and prayers!
